Roisin Willis Runs Wisconsin Record 2:05.68 - Wisconsin State Meet Recap 2019

Freshman Roisin Willis Wins State 800 Final In 2:05.68

Rising star Roisin Willis, a freshman from Stevens Point, lowered the Wisconsin all-time best in the 800 meters to 2:05.68 on Saturday at the Wisconsin state track and field championships in La Crosse.

Willis, who moved into the national spotlight when she won the 800 meters at New Balance Nationals Indoor, also helped her team win the 4x400 relay (3:53.81).

The weekend didn’t go as well for senior Brooke Jaworski of Wausau West, the seven-time state champion. Jaworski aggravated her hamstring in the prelim round of the 100-meter hurdles and was unable to continue at the state meet.

The Texas signee ran a season-best time of 41.40 seconds in the 300-meter hurdles on May 4 to match her Wisconsin state record, and a season-best time of 54.52 at the Wisconsin Valley Conference meet on May 14.

Sprinter Amari Brown from Milwaukee King sped through the 100 meters final in 11.64 seconds and won the 200 in 23.40w. She also helped her 4x100 relay team to a victory in 46.70 seconds.

Kiara Lee from Madison La Follette broke the all-time Wisconsin record in the triple jump with her US#11 mark of 41 feet, three-quarters of an inch.

Sophomore Danni Langseth from DC Everest won the girls shot put and discus with a personal best marks of 45-6.25 and 149 feet, respectively.

Jadin O’Brien from Divine Savior Holy Angels ran 13.91 seconds to win the 100-meter hurdles and 42.34 to win the 300 hurdles.

Sophomore sisters Amalia and Kora Malacek from Onalaska both won state titles in the distance events. Amalia won the 1,600 meters in 4:55.77 and Kora won the 3,200 meters in 10:36.25.

Drew Bosley turned back stiff competition in the 1,600 meters and 3,200 meters to win both finals. In the 1,600 Bosley ran 4:12.14 to beat challenger Rowen Ellenberg of Kimberly, who ran 4:12.28. In the 3,200, Bosley ran 8:57.70 and beat Neenah senior Matthew Meinke (9:02.76).   

Ellenberg won the 800 meters in 1:55.41 to help his team win the championship.

Elijah Johnson of Milwaukee Washington ran 10.50 to claim the 100 meters title and followed up with 21.38w to win the 200.

Andrew Stone from Fond Du Lac, a Wisconsin signee, won the shot put at 61-3 and the discus with a mark of 189-7.

Alex Lesperance of Waukesha North won the long jump with 23-8.50 and placed second in the 100 meters. 

Evan Schuster from Racine Saint Catherine’s won the boys D2 titles in the 200 meters (22.00) and 400 meters (48.82).

Sophomore Cade Meyer from Monroe cleared 6-9 to win the high jump.

Dameco Walker from Brown Deer won the long jump with 23-4.

Freshman Sylvia Johansen from Clinton won the D2 100 meters in 11.95 seconds. She finished second in the 200.

Rachel Bottum from East Troy won the 400 meters in 57.15 seconds and placed second in the 800 meters.

Leah Kralovetz from Denmark won the 1,600 meters in 4:56.84 and the 3,200 meters in 10:38.12.

Mackenzie Heyroth from Lodi swept the hurdles finals (14.36 and 43.61). She also ran on the winning 4x400 relay team.

Freshman Jaiah Hopf helped Wisconsin Lutheran win the D2 girls team title with wins in the long jump (18-4) and triple jump (38-7.50). 

Sophomore Lukas Beck played a big role in Aquinas’ boys Division 3 team title. He won the 100 meters in 10.73 second and the 200 meters in 21.84. He also anchored the winning 4x200 relay.

Adam Rzentkowski of Rosholt won three finals on the track, taking the 800 meters (1:56.35), the 1,600 (4:20.38) and the 3,200 (9:37.40).

Aubrey Schoeneman from Mercer threw 43-3.75 to win the girls shot put.

Sophomore Jessica Brueggeman from Royall swept the long jump (18-8.25) and triple jump (38-9.75).

Freshman Kayci Martensen of Benton-Scales Mound-Shullsburg ran to wins in the 1,600 meters (5:02.53) and 3,200 meters (10:48.84) and placed second in the 800 (2:15.07).
