Valor Christian Sets New Standards In Class 5A

By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor

Valor Christian's girls, led by senior multi-event star Anna Hall, left a big imprint on the Colorado state record book Saturday at the CHSAA Track and Field Championships.

Hall and her teammates broke all-time state records in the 4x200 (1:37.00) and 4x400 (US#3 3:41.89) on the way to tallying 149 points for the championship.

Hall also swept the two hurdles events in 14.18 seconds (100 meters) and 41.78 seconds (300 meters).

The 4x200 record went down in the prelims and the team came back for 1:37.39 to win the finals.

It was a stunning comeback for Hall, who was wearing a protective boot just five weeks ago.

Another senior making a bold final statement at the state meet was Arria Minor of Denver East, who ran wind-legal times of 11.31 to win the 100 meters and 23.10 to win the 200 meters. Both performances are US#2.

Grandview junior Lily Williams won the 5A titles in the 400 meters (53.63). In a marquee matchup in the 800 meters, Marlena Preigh from Fairview ran 2:08.55 to Williams' 2:09.10.

In the boys competition, Luc Andrada of Pueblo East ran 10.51w (+2.2) to win the 4A 100 meters. He also ran 21.21w (+3.4) to win the 200. He also powered his team to wins in the 4x100 and 4x200 relays.

Valor Christian junior Cole Sprout won the 5A titles in the 1,600 meters (4:13.78) and 3,200 meters (9:11,84).

Sophomore Taylor James from Niwot had a spectacular showing in Class 4A, winning the 200 meters (24.76), the 400 meters (54.25) and the 800 meters in 2:08.29.

Zion Gordon of Regis Jesuit won the 5A titles in the boys 100 (10.67) and 110-meter hurdles (13.85).

Mountain Vista won a big duel with Arapahoe in the boys 5A 4x800 relay, taking the win by a second, 7:47.23 to 7:48.33. Durango won the 4A title in 7:48.55.

Kain Medrano of Pueblo East won the 4A boys discus with 188-6. He was also second in the shot put.
